Corn (Clavus)

A corn is a distinctively shaped callus of dead skin that usually occurs on thin or glabrous skin surface.

They are circumscribed, cone shaped, hyperkeratosis of the skin

Clinical features of Corn

  • Size varies from 1 mm to 2 mm in diameter
  • Apex of this conical mass is pointed inward and presses upon the subjacent structure
  • Pressure upon nerves can cause severe pain
  • Common sites are thicker skin of palms or bottom of feet
